Tiger Zinda Hai box office collection day 15: Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s film sailing through untroubled waters

Salman Khan’s latest film Tiger Zinda Hai has now entered its third week and is still performing like a newly released film. The action film, that also stars Katrina Kaif and is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, has earned Rs 291.55 crore (and still counting). The film will certainly cross the Rs 300 crore mark in the weekend, possibly on Saturday itself, and with it the lifetime collection of Salman’s own Sultan. The film really came like a breath of fresh air at the end of an underperforming year for Bollywood.
Indian Express film critic Shubra Gupta had given the film average review, praising some aspects and slamming the others. “Only once in a while, the film gives in and provides us a killing which sobers us up, but very quickly it’s back to the base, with Bhai taking over, and everyone– including Nurse Poorna (Goenka, who plays Parvathy’s role), and Zoya (Kaif plays her straight, made up to appear unmade and dishevelled for the most part, in keeping with the let’s –keep-everything-on-the-table spirit)—making way for him. But you can see she enjoys kicking butt: you wish she had more to do,” she had noted.
Tiger Zinda Hai should do well for a while now as it does not have strong, or any competition whatsoever, apart from a couple of Hollywood releases that are unlikely to put dent into Tiger Zinda Hai’s armour. In fact, for weeks this Salman Khan starrer has no solid competition and its boat is expected to sail in untroubled waters for weeks.

“Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool” and Gloria Grahame’s Defiant Power

The rise of talking pictures coincided with the Great Depression. The ostensible golden age of the studios paralleled the darkest days of the thirties. Orson Welles’s “Citizen Kane,” released two months and two days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, sparked an artistic revolution amid the Second World War’s stifled traumas. Current-day Hollywood contrives its public self-image from the phantoms and the fumes of the classic studio era; in the process, it evokes, with a fallacious longing, the hard-knock times that high-studio movies symbolize. The latest revenant of reflected glory is in not a Hollywood movie but a British one—“Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool,” based on the British actor Peter Turner’s memoir about his relationship with the Hollywood luminary Gloria Grahame, which began in 1978 (when she was fifty-four and he was twenty-six) and lasted until her death, in 1981.

As the title of Turner’s brisk, poignant book suggests, it’s the story of how Grahame, one of the most celebrated (and, to my mind, one of the best) movie actors of the nineteen-fifties, ended up being nursed through her final illness by him and his pleasantly unexceptional, warmly conventional working-class English family (who offer an extraordinary breadth of generosity and depth of emotion). The book’s strength is found in its sketches of surprising personal connections through a diverse range of places and settings: Turner and Grahame met in London, visited California and Las Vegas, and lived together in New York before Turner returned to Liverpool and, after a break in their relationship, was summoned to London to gather Grahame there and deal with her failing health. Turner, a working actor of local renown, found himself in contact with a legend whose way of life had become surprisingly ordinary but whose personality retained its grandeur, whose every casual remark resonated with the weight of a past that was populated by potentates and geniuses and by fierce conflicts—intimate, public, and historical.

Like Turner’s book, the movie (directed by Paul McGuigan, written by Matt Greenhalgh) depends on this split—the ordinariness of the life of a former star. When Turner and Grahame meet—in real life, in 1978; the film has it as 1979—her career was greatly reduced. She played small roles in good movies (such as Jonathan Demme’s “Melvin and Howard”), but she mainly worked in theatre, to mild acclaim. Yet at the point that she and Turner meet—she’s in London doing a play and living in a simple apartment in a modest residential building in Primrose Hill; he’s her upstairs neighbor, working in a store and auditioning for roles—her movie-star fire still smolders.

First look at Hollywood's 'gritty' Robin Hood movie is utterly baffling

The first images from 2018's "gritty" reimagining of Robin Hood have teased a new Sherwood Forest full of automatic weapons, fashionable battle armour and chic fascist-wear straight out of a Hunger Games reboot.
Starring Kingsman's Taron Egerton and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, the film has been described as a dark, revisionist prequel to the historical story, with Deadline claiming in 2015 that the script had been likened to Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.
The first pictures from the film depict Egerton and Jamie Foxx as Robin and Little John, Eve Hewson (daughter of U2's Bono) as Maid Marian and Ben Mendelsohn as a sharply-outfitted Sheriff of Nottingham – who appears to be backed up by an army of minions carrying weapons that look like machine guns.

Hollywood Jesus Dies; L.A. Legend Was 57

Not all Hollywood legends are movie stars. Some are living legends who walk the streets of West Hollywood, dressed as Jesus.
Sadly, Kevin Short, the man known as Hollywood Jesus in L.A. and beyond, has passed away.
He was 57 years old, and he is mourned by friends and also by complete strangers whose lives he touched.

Akshay Kumar Credits Twinkle Khanna For Teaching Aarav All About Menstruation

Akshay Kumar has started promoting his upcoming movie PadMan in full flow (heheh sorry couldn’t resist). The actor, who is now constantly being questioned about his knowledge of menstruation, answered to the best of his abilities at a recent media interaction. The actor was asked about his prep for the R Balki film, (which is also Twinkle Khanna‘s first foray into production) and how much does their son Aarav know about periods.

Here’s what he said –
Twinkle told everything about periods to our son Aarav. Nothing is hidden in our family. We don’t live double-faced lives. We have kept it very open.
He added –
It was one and half years ago that I actually got to know about it (menstruation) in detail when I started prepping for the film. Currently, it’s 82% of the female population of our country who don’t have the access to sanitary pads. I hope that even if 5% women out of 82% get the awareness, I have won the battle.
That’s a nice thought!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Is Reportedly Getting Rs 10 Crores For Her New Movie

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to star in a remake of Raat Aur Din, a 1967 movie starring Nargis Dutt. This movie was one of the first few films based on multiple personality disorder and her portrayal of the submissive Varuna and the hedonistic Penny won the late actress a National Award for best actress. Now Aishwarya is all set to step into her shoes and as per a report on Mid-Day, she’s being paid Rs. 10 crores.
Here’s what a source has to say about this deal –
Since Aishwarya has a double role, the film will require extensive preparation. It will be a time-consuming project, which means she will have to let go of the other films that come her way. The fee she has quoted is fair. The producers have agreed to the amount without any negotiation.
To be honest, even this sum is partly in comparison to the packages of male superstars in India, but it’s definitely a positive step to combat the wage-gap issue working women deal with all over the world
